Most clients start with a course of three treatments, about four weeks apart. Some skin concerns, such as more established acne scarring, benefit from a longer six-treatment plan. We agree the right plan with you at your consultation.
Numbing cream goes on first, and most people describe light pressure or a mild buzzing. Afterwards your skin is likely to look pink, like mild sunburn, and may feel tight or dry for one to three days. Avoid the sun for 24 hours before and 72 hours after, and make-up and SPF can go on after 24 hours.
SkinPen uses no heat or laser. In the US, its FDA clearance for facial acne scars covers all Fitzpatrick skin types, and its clearance for neck wrinkles covers types II to IV. At consultation we check for anything that can affect healing, such as active acne or infection in the area, a history of keloid scarring or recent isotretinoin (Roaccutane).
